October   Everyone is finding their groove and getting used to traveling one way down hallways, wearing masks, washing hands, and doing everything we can to keep us all healthy.  The students took their SATs and PSATs this month.  We will not be hosting SATs here for the next couple months but testing sites are available for November and December.

September   Welcome back everyone.    It sure is good to see kids back and working hard.  9, 10, and 11th graders are taking their NWEA tests.  We should be finishing up the last week in September.  If you are a Junior or Senior sign up to take the SAT.  Unless you receive a perfect score you should take the SAT more than once.  The higher your scores, the more money you can be awarded for college.  Free money IS GREAT!!!

2019/2020

March  Exams on the 12th and 13th mark the end of the 2nd trimester.  Many scholarships are due for seniors on March 15th.  Spring break begins on Friday, April 3rd.  See everyone back here on April 13th!!  March is also "March Madness" in the Media Center, check out a book and get your name on a basketball for a chance to win a gift certificate for the School Store!!

The word of the month for March is:

READ  Look at and comprehend the meaning of (written or printed matter) by mentally interpreting the characters or symbols of which it is composed.

February  If you haven't picked up your copy of the READ HARDER CHALLENGE 2020 please see Ms. Kim in the Media Center!!  Parents, I encourage you to take the Challenge as well!!!  I started the Challenge myself and have been extremely surprised and pleased with the books I have read so far.

The word of the month for February is:

FAITH Complete trust or confidence in someone or something.  Faith is hard and does not come easily. Just like the muscles of the body, faith must be exercised to grow. You may go one inch the first day, two inches the second day, three inches the third, etc. Just like with any other activity into which you are growing, faith must be exercised every day.                     HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF!!

January  Welcome back everyone, we want to wish you a healthy, happy New Year.

Let's start January off with a word.  The word for January is:

POSITIVE  In the simplest sense, positive means good — or the opposite of negative. If you have a positive attitude about homework, for example, you're more likely to get positive feedback on your report card.

Readers, the "READ HARDER CHALLENGE 2020" is here!!!!!

December  The beginning of Trimester 2, Christmas break, Career Cruising.  Lots happening for a short school month.  Please work hard to stay on top of your new classes and stay positive!!

November We are participating in MI Career Quest on Friday, November 8.  This major career exploration event provides our students with impressive displays and professionals from four main career areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Health Sciences, and Information Technology.  Take a look at the list of jobs represented on Page 9 of the School Guide to see the wide range of career representatives.  Please consider sharing this video with your students and highly encourage them to attend.  The program works well for both students who aren't sure what they want to do for a career along with those who have selected a career path - those students can look into internship and apprenticeship opportunities.  Almost 10,000 students from SE Michigan will be attending the program over three sessions. The only cost for students will be a pizza lunch for $2 (served on the bus on the way back to school).  Please click on the PDF link (above right) to open the brochure and check out the event details!!!

October  The beautiful colors of the season are fast approaching, fall athletics are in full swing, and NWEA testing is wrapping up.  That does not mean that we get to sit back and relax.  The PSAT/NMSQT will be given on October 16th, there are SAT's in October and November, college reps are here just about daily to talk to seniors and juniors, and we are having great success with our "ON THE SPOT" admission days for our senior class.  It is really important that freshmen and sophomores take their studies seriously and work hard at achieving grades they can be proud of.  Trying to raise a GPA is much harder to do when you get into the 11th and 12th grades.  Don't forget about Manufacturing Day, Friday, October 4th.  Turn in your permission slips ASAP!!!

Students, please be respectable of the technology that you have access to. Devices are being damaged, repairs are costly, and other students may have to go without as a result.

September 2019  Welcome back students and hello freshmen!!!  September is National Library Card Month, if you do not have a library card at your local city Library, please make your way there and sign up for one!!  We will once again  try our hand at the Get-Schooled campaign, 9th - 12 graders go to http://getschooled.com and create an account.  Earn money for our school and cool stuff for you!!  The PSAT/NMSQT will be given at the high school on Wednesday, October 16th.  If you are considering going to college and are a junior or sophomore, it would benefit you to take the PSAT.  The cost is $17 and registration ends September 13th.  NWEA testing commences Monday, September 15, 2019 and runs through the following week.  Students are reminded to try their best in all subject matters as these scores help with class placement.

2018/2019

May isn't just a time for growth and change outside, there is a lot happening at school.  Seniors are preparing to leave the only second home they have known for the last 12 years. In a couple weeks they will be stepping out into the great, wide world forever.  Whether they attend a University, Community college, Trade School, join the Military, get a job, or do something else in pursuit of their dreams, we wish them the best of luck and safe travels on their journeys.  The juniors cannot wait to step into the seniors shoes and yet, they are already feeling the pressure of SAT's, going on college tours, and deciding which colleges to apply to over the summer for early admissions.  To AP or not to AP... that is the question!!!

April  is a heavy hitter in the Library world.  April 7 thru the 13th is National Library Week.  National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities.  This year’s theme, Libraries = Strong Communities, illustrates how today’s libraries are at the heart of our cities, towns, schools and campuses, providing critical resources, programs and expertise. They also provide a public space where all community members, regardless of age, culture or income level, can come together to connect and learn.  Library programs are designed to encourage community members to meet and discuss civic issues, work together using new technologies like 3D printing or learn alongside one another in English language or technology classes. Library staff also partner with other civic and service organizations to actively engage the people they serve, always striving to make sure their community’s needs are being met. Join the celebration! National Library Week is an exciting opportunity for library supporters and libraries of all types to raise awareness of their value and impact in their communities. Free tools are now available to help spread the word about National Library Week including print and digital graphics, sample social media posts and much more! Check back often as we are continuing to add more tools and resources.

April is National Poetry Month, we will be posting poems around the Media Center for you to read and encourage you to grab some paper and give it a try!!  We would like to post YOUR poems around the Media Center too!!
